We have written many times about the danger of Formaldehyde in Children's Care Products. In fact, because of the 30 or 40 brand names for this carcinogen, the easiest way to site such chemical is to look for the formaldehyde releaser, Quanternium-15. The following article is specific. One MUST remember that a baby's BODY SURFACE AREA - the SKIN - is porportionally greater to the body than an adult. Furthermore, the skin absorbs whatever it come in contact with and therefore ANY Formaldehyde should be avoided.

Campaign for Safe Cosmetics reports finding traces of 1,4-dioxane and formaldehyde in shampoos, bath gels and wipes. But federal experts say any health hazard is vanishingly small.Washington PostMarch 14, 2009

Impact of Environmental Toxins on the Health of Children PDF Print E-mail

Written by Dr Sharyn Martin for ASEHA Qld Inc 2005

Approximately 100,000 synthetic chemicals are being commercially produced with 1500 new chemicals being introduced each year (UK Royal Commission www.rcep.uk.org). The majority of these chemicals have not been adequately tested for their effects on human adult health much less tested for their impact on children and the developing fetus. We are exposed to many of these in our homes in the form of consumer products such as TVs & computers, children’s toys, furniture, carpets & other types of flooring, cosmetics, fragrances etc.

One Dead, Others Injured In SW Suburban Houshold Accident

ORLAND PARK, Ill. (CBS/STNG/AP)  -- One person is reportedly dead and several others have been hospitalized Tuesday morning after they were overcome by fumes from household chemicals in Orland Park.

Six firefighters were among those hospitalized after the incident at 10314 Hilltop Drive. Firefighters and paramedics first on the scene encountered high levels of unknown fumes.

Orland Fire Protection District says emergency services got a call just before 8 a.m.

Apparently, an industrial-strength drain cleaner mixed with other household chemicals, Orland Park Fire Protection District Chief Donald Bettenhausen said.

"We still don't know what it is," Bettenhausen said.

Battalion Chief Lieutenant Daniel Smith says first responders went to the home and found three victims, one in cardiac arrest. That number increased to nine as fire district personnel were treated for breathing problems.

The materials were a mixture of industrial strength drain cleaner and other unknown chemicals, causing chlorine-based fumes.

The Cook County medical examiner's office says the victim is a 47-year-old man, but did not release any other information.

Orland Park Police Cmdr. Chuck Doll said it appears to be a household accident. Three adults were in the house when the fire department received the call about a person having trouble breathing.

The injured were taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn; Palos Community Hospital in Palos Heights; and Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet.
