Pet Toxicity due to Cleaning Agents

April 17th, 2007

Th ASPCA(The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) reports their calls in 2006, approximately 7,200, pertaining to cleaning agents such as bleaches, detergents and disinfectants were received—up 38 percent from the year before. Says Dr. Hansen, “Depending on the circumstances of exposure, some household cleaners can lead to gastrointestinal irritation or even severe oral burns for pets.” Additionally, irritation to the respiratory tract may be possible if a product is inhaled. “All household cleaners and other chemicals should be stored in a secure location well out of the reach of pets,” recommends Dr. Hansen, “and when cleaning your pet’s food and water bowls, crate or other habitat, a mild soap such as a hand dishwashing detergent along with hot water is a good choice over products containing potentially harsh chemicals.” How safe is your home? Pets and Children at Risk

April 17th, 2007

Each year, Americans purchase and apply to their pets a vast array of toxic chemicals intended to kill fleas and ticks. But they can also poison pets and the people who handle them. Moreover, when these products are combined in the home, as they often are, with other toxic chemical products in common use — pesticides, herbicides, and other products — they can pose a serious health risk, especially to children. Like children, our pets have a large surface/body ratio making them particularly vulnerable to toxicity. Natural oils from the Melaleuca Alternafolia plants are a natural repellent for the fleas. In fact, we use this in our dog’s shampoo and in a diluted spray for prevention. Join us in keeping our pet’s immune systems strong. click the link to learn more.

Pets and Toxic Chemicals

February 15th, 2007

We love our standard poodle, Ruby. I’m sure many of you also have loved pets. Have you stopped to think of what our pets are exposed to both indoors and outdoors? Indoors, let’s not forget that our pets walk the floors constantly. They sleep in their beds and our beds. What toxic chemicals are used to clean your home or wash your clothes? Sometimes, it takes the realization that even our pets are being poisoned by toxic chemicals for us to change what we use in our home. Let me know what you are cleaning/washing with in your homes! Bacterial Static vs Bacterial Cidal

January 14th, 2007

Today found me in the midst of an information stream that was not only inaccurate but could be damaging to live creatures - pets and humans alike. I’m speaking of the difference between disinfecting agents that are “bacterial static” vs “bacterial cidal.” Static keeps the germ in check but Cidal actually kills the cluster so they cannot reproduce. PLEASE, be careful! We all want to avoid toxic chemicals and we still need to protect ourselves and our families from harmful germs. SO, let me make a bold statement and that is that Vinegar is only Bacterial Static AT MOST. In fact, to go further, Vinegar is only brushing gems aside; they will regrow. Vinegar is great for smells and it surely is not toxic but I caution EVERYONE to think of the goal of wiping/cleaning agents and THERE IS A 100% natrual disenfectant, licensed by the EPA! I’m grateful to share this information and it will do my heart good to know that someone will be helped with this information. Let me hear your experiences too! karen
